You should know by now that miracles don’t happen. It’s not the way the world works. Wishing for the impossible never yields satisfactory results.

I am not an angel. I am not a savior. I am most certainly not a hero. For your sake and mine, please stop believing that I am anything of the sort, because I’m not. I have never been anything more than I claim to be: a detective.

There’s not much I can do for you now, because no one can repair the wounds of the heart, especially not one so empty himself.

But I can do this for you, John. I can be what you need just one more time.
